After months of speculation, it’s finally official: The Batman: Part II is moving ahead. Director Matt Reeves has finished the script with Mattson Tomlin, Robert Pattinson is back in the cowl, and cameras are set to roll in spring 2026, with a release date of October 1, 2027.
Speaking to Variety, Reeves confirmed: “We start shooting in spring, probably around the end of April or beginning of May. It’s been a long journey, but I am so incredibly excited. I’m really proud of the script me and Mattson did, and we’ve started to share it with Robert. Rob was super excited, I feel really excited about the idea that we can reach farther and do even more than we did in the first one… We put the script into a secret pouch that literally has a lock on it with a code. Pattinson was in New York at the time, and everything is high security. We really trust Rob, because he’s the best.”
Story details remain under wraps, though Colin Farrell has hinted his Penguin will only play a smaller role this time around. With Reeves’ Batman saga continuing under DC’s Elseworlds banner, the filmmaker has creative freedom to expand Gotham’s story without being tied into the wider DC Universe.
With the script locked, security high, and Pattinson eager to return, fans can now start the countdown to what promises to be an even darker and more ambitious chapter in Reeves’ Gotham.
