Following the recent departure of Director Shawn Levy many fans have been questioning whether Sony’s Uncharted movie adaptation was completely dead in the water. 

The project has been in development since 2008 and has been through many changes over the years with Levy, Seth Gordon, David O.Russell and Neil Burger all being attached to direct.  Mark Wahlberg was once going to be cast as the lead and also rumor has it that Chris Pratt was offered the role of Nathan Drake but ultimately turned it down.

Tom Holland was eventually cast as Nathan Drake and the story is set to be based on a younger version of the treasure hunter learning the tricks of the trade as a thief alongside his mentor Sully rumoured to be played by Bryan Cranston.  

Dan Trachtenberg who is best known for 10 Cloverfield Lane has now been announced to pick up the reins for the highly anticipated film and production is due to start later this year.  Trachtenberg now has a difficult task on his hands as video game to movie adaptations have a disappointing track record amongst fans with many claiming they fail to capture what makes the games so enjoyable or the source material is mishandled.

Uncharted has all the elements to become a great movie franchise and here’s hoping when it finally hits our cinema screens Trachtenberg and co have created a truly incredible cinematic experience.
